Lamborghini Launches Urus SE in India

Following the launch of the Revuelto supercar, Automobili Lamborghini has unveiled its second plug-in hybrid model in India: the Urus SE SUV. The SUV has been refined to improve aerodynamics by incorporating cutting-edge technology. The SUV now delivers approximately 789 combined horsepower from its hybrid powertrain.

According the company this new SUV plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version has enhanced the Urus S’s attributes in comfort, performance, efficiency, emissions, and driving enjoyment. The hybrid system that this SUV uses is a combination of an IC engine mated to an electric motor which results in the highest torque and power outputs ever recorded for this model and reducing emissions by 80%. This significant reduction in emissions might be its primary purpose as its performance isn’t markedly different from the Urus S, which has an internal combustion engine.

Hybrid Powerhouse with Redesigned V8 and Electric Motor

The Urus SE uses a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that has been redesigned to work seamlessly with the electric powertrain. The new internal combustion engine alone produces 600 horsepower (456 kW) and a peak torque of 800Nm. On the other hand the electric motor outputs about 190 (141 kW) horsepower and a peak torque of 483Nm.

The primary focus has been on fine-tuning the coordination between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor for achieving a combined output of 800 CV (around 789 horsepower) and to also ensure a smooth power delivery in every driving mode and on all surfaces.

The electric motor used in the SUV is a permanent-magnet synchronous motor and is integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission. This electric motor enhances the IC engines power and serve as a traction component. The Urus SE can also be driven in fully electric mode with four-wheel-drive capability. The SUV can travel more than 60 kilometres in electric mode.

However, this advanced technology comes at a price, with the Urus SE starting at ex-showroom price of 4.5 crore.

Key Features:

1. Wheels and Tires: The Urus SE has upgraded alloy wheels with the introduction of 23-inch Galanthus rims as standard, matched with new Pirelli P Zero tires. There are three specific P Zero tire options offered by the company, ranging from 21-inch to 23-inch depending upon the customer needs.

2. Aerodynamic Enhancements: The Urus SE has a concealed socket for the electric cable hidden under a cover. Aerodynamic efficiency is boosted by new under-body air vents and redesigned air ducts. This design change directs 15% more airflow to cool the engine and mechanical parts compared to the original Urus. Additionally, the brakes receive 30% more cooling air, as stated by Lamborghini.

3. Design Improvements: The Urus SE now has quad tailpipes, accompanied by a diffuser. The rear hatch has been revamped with a Gallardo-inspired design, linking the taillight clusters with ‘Y’ lights. The addition of a new spoiler and diffuser reportedly increases rear downforce by 35% at high speeds compared to the Urus S.

4. Performance: The Urus SE delivers substantial torque and power at any engine speed or driving condition. The total power output is around 789 horsepower at 6,000 rpm with a peak torque of 950 Nm from 1,750 to 5,750 rpm. With a slightly improved weight-to-power ratio over the Urus S, the Urus SE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds, with a top speed of 312 km/h making it as the most powerful Urus Lamborghini has produced to date.

5. Interior Space: Despite housing the battery below the boot floor, the Urus SE offers ample amount of luggage space.

6. Design and Aesthetics: The Urus SE retains a similar look to the Urus S but includes several minor external modifications to optimize aerodynamic efficiency. It features a new floating-design bonnet and the absence of a cut-off line, reminiscent of the Revuelto’s styling. Additional new elements include headlight clusters with matrix LED technology, a redesigned bumper, and a new curved light signature on the front grill.

7. Updated Interior Features: The cabin has also been updated to enhance the lightweight feel introduced with the Revuelto. It has a 12.3-inch central screen with improved graphics that aligns with the Revuelto’s design. Anodized aluminium trim in the signature Y shape frames of the air vents. The infotainment touchscreen pairs with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to provide a dedicated telemetry system and a driving assistance system for the SE.

8. Driving Modes: The ‘tamburo’ selector allows for multiple driving modes, offering even more options with the hybrid powertrain. The six traditional driving modes (Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia, Terra) are now complemented by four new electric performance strategies (EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, Recharge), providing a total of eleven configurations, enhancing versatility in various driving conditions.

9. Battery and Charging: The charging socket for the 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery is located below the cargo floor and above the electronically controlled rear differential.
