Oppo Find X7 Ultra: A Standout Competitor Missing from the Indian Market

One of the most anticipated smartphone launches this year, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, is unfortunately not being released in India at this time. This highly advanced device, positioned as a strong competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra, stands out due to its unique marketing strategy and high-end features. I had the opportunity to use the Oppo Find X7 Ultra for several weeks, giving an in-depth look at its capabilities and performance. My impressions reveal that this is a phone many tech enthusiasts would love to own, but unfortunately, it’s not available in the Indian market.

Out-of-the-Box Design

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra boasts a stunning design that highlights its advanced camera hardware. The back features beautiful textured vegan leather, adding a soft touch to the metallic glass and aluminum top. The large, prominent camera module is impossible to miss and gives the phone a unique look. The four 50MP cameras offer flagship-level performance. The centered camera module ensures the phone doesn’t wobble on a flat surface and props it up slightly, making the screen easier to read. An alert slider on the side is reminiscent of OnePlus phones. While the curved edges on the front and back glass feel great in hand, a flat display might be preferable to avoid accidental touches.

The massive 6.82-inch AMOLED display is impressive, with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. This screen shines especially with HDR content, supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG standards. As an LTPO display, it supports variable refresh rates from 1 Hz to 120 Hz.

The phone houses a 5,000mAh battery, ensuring it lasts more than a day. Charging is quick with the 100W fast charger, and the technology ensures battery longevity. Wireless charging is also included.

Plenty of Power

The review unit came with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage. The processor is efficient, balancing power and battery life, and supports AI processes. It handles any task, including gaming, effortlessly. However, this model is not available in India. The Oppo Find X7 Ultra runs on the Chinese version of ColorOS 14 based on Android 14. We had to side-load the Google Play Store to access necessary apps in India.

Exceptional Camera Hardware

The camera system is the highlight, featuring four 50MP sensors: ultra-wide (Sony LYT600), main (Sony LYT-900, second-gen one-inch sensor), 3x telephoto (Sony IMX890), and 6x telephoto (Sony IMX858). These large sensors excel in low-light conditions, producing bright photos with minimal noise and excellent bokeh. Hasselblad tuning adds a warm contrast rarely seen in other flagships.

The large sensors enhance depth of field, reducing the need for a DSLR for casual photography. They allow for minimal digital zoom reliance, offering sharp, color-accurate photos even at 10x and 20x zoom levels. The ultra-wide camera maintains consistent contrast and minimal color shift from the main lens, while telephoto lenses produce detailed, color-rich images with little chromatic distortion. Video quality is good, though the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have a slight edge. The front 32 MP camera takes excellent selfies in almost any lighting condition.

What Sets It Apart

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra pushes the boundaries of Android phone capabilities rather than just offering incremental improvements. While I wouldn’t switch from a Samsung flagship or iPhone without a full software experience, there’s no denying Oppo’s significant progress in camera technology. The Oppo Find X7 Ultra meets all smartphone needs, and Oppo should consider launching it in India to compete with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
